Narcos TV show is one of the most hugely popular series so far. The show follows the rise and fall of one of the most dangerous and wealthiest drug lord in the world, Pablo Escobar, who hailed from Colombia. The series is now in its third season with the fourth season already underway in production. However, on Sunday 17th September, the man in charge of scouting for location to film the series, was shot dead in Mexico
The work of a scout locator is simple and equally hard. They go out and look for places where the show can be shot. They decide whether the location will appear as expected when filming takes place. Narcos’ location manager was killed while searching for places to film when the show moves from Colombia to Mexico in its fourth season. The fourth season will reportedly focus on the Juarez drug cartel in Mexico. Carlos Munoz Portal has been working for many years finding locations for US film and television productions working in Mexico.
Netflix, which is the company producing Narcos, confirmed the death of the scout by saying, “We are aware of the death of Carlos Munoz Portal, a respected location manager, and offer our condolences to his relatives. The facts are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate what happened.”
Carlos had worked on films such as Man on Fire, Apocalypto and the fourth installment of the Fast and Furious. The location manager was very good at his work as seen by some of his most successful projects. The circumstances that lead to his death are still unknown but his body was found hours later, having been shot severally. His car was found on an unnamed dirt road, in a site close to a border. No witnesses have come forth because of the remoteness of where he was. The place is also known to be quite insecure.
A close friend of the deceased who did not want to be named said, “Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car.”
