Fallen Paralympic Oscar Pistorius got sentenced for six years for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The one-time Olympic icon clutched at his family, as he was led down to the cells to await his return to prison.
Under the sentencing guidelines used by Judge Thokozile Masipa, he could go free after only serving 3 years of the sentence.
The statutory minimum for murder in South Africa is 15 years, however, the Judge found that Pistorius’ disability, the context of the killing, the 12 months he has already spent behind bars during which he completed a raft of rehabilitation courses provided ‘compelling’ reasons to show mercy.
