Kenyans are an unforgiving lot. They can turn a beautiful gesture into a debacle in an instance. …
Today morning there have been numerous blogs reporting that Size 8 and DJ Mo’s marriage in on the rocks. The shocking details were that Size 8 has even moved out of the couple’s matrimonial home.
Yesterday we unraveled what might be the newest celebrity couple in town, Timmy T-dat and Dela. If they indeed are an item, then they’ll add to the long list of celebrity couples we have had in the local scene. Not the first, and of course not the last. Can we look at some of the celebrity couples that the local arena has seen in the past, the surviving ones and the past tense? We can? Good. Here we go.
The oldest celebrity couple we have ever seen in Kenya. These two tied the knot back in 2005 and have gone ahead to become a model family to many young couples. They have two daughters, Tumiso and Nyakio. The two are not ashamed of expressing their love for each other even in their social media circles, showing other couples that indeed, true love never dies.
2. Kenrazy and Sosuun.
These two are Ghipuka artistes who were once in Pacho before heading to Grandpa Records then decamping there as well. They have a 5-year-old daughter who they’ve christened Keniana.
3. Dj Moh and Size 8.
The most popular celebrity couple right now. Nobody ever saw this coming. When Size 8 turned over a new leaf and became a gospel artiste, it took many by surprise. same way it did when she married Dj Mo. The two have a cute baby girl called Ladasha Belle Wambo whose Instagram account has almost 110, 000 followers.
4. Dennis Okari and Betty Kyalo.
They are among the top journalists in Kenya. When the two walked down the aisle last year, it was the most glamorous wedding for the year. They went for honeymoon in different destinations; Diani, Mauritius and then Dubai. However, something happened less than a year into their marriage. Divorce rumors flew around and before we knew it, it was alleged that the two had split and were no longer living together. The two have however sealed their lips concerning the whole issue.
5. Timmy T-dat and Kush Tracey.
Our boy is here again, Timmy dated fellow artiste Kush Tracey. The too looked so much in love, confessing their love for each other during the day. They even had a song together, Ndulu, and were involved in a road accident together while looking for locations for their video. Then the story came to an abrupt end, with each side accusing the other of being responsible for it all. Kush Tracey said Timmy had assaulted her while Timmy said that she had been snatched from her by some Kisii politician whose goons had beaten him mercilessly outside club 1824.
6. Colonel Mustapha and Marya.
It broke our hearts, this one. Perefct match made in heaven for each one, they graced our magazines and were the loveliest couple at the time. They were signed to Ogopa DJs, then they did a collabo ‘Hey baby’ and were a couple everybody else envied. Then when things looked forward to going up, they crumbled, fell and broke. Mustapha is Muslim and Marya Christian.Their efforts to take their relationship to be more than that but marriage hit rock bottom after the obvious religious differences. And that was the end of the sweet narrative.
We’ve had artistes who come to the game as secular artistes. We dance to their music in the clubs and then somewhere along the course they switch sides. They cross over from Egypt to Canaan. They denounce their evil ways and get saved. Maybe you know Size 8 alone. But do you know the rest? Well, we look at some of them.
We all know her. She’s so far the most popular female artiste currently, as well as most successful female artiste we have right now. And she sings! And she is gorgeous, then she is married to gospel DJ Mo with whom they have a cute daughter, Ladasha. Before doing Mateke, she had Vidonge. It was doing really well when she got saved. She was the best-selling female artiste, and everybody envied her. She gave her testimony in Mateke, saying that she was neither happy nor contented with how her life was, despite all the success and fame as a secular artiste.
2. Mr. Googz.
He was among the biggest back then. His collabo with Mr. Lenny and Vinny Banton “Githurai” won him many accolades and he was living well off. He had everything that he wanted and then suddenly disappeared from the scene. When he came back, he was a pastor and was very clean. He did Redemption, a song that announced his state before unleashing ‘Gospel Celebrity’, a song that seemed to be criticizing the current crop of gospel artistes.
Mr. Googz said that he got saved after some show he had attended at Carnivore grounds. He saw heard a voice call him and decided to change his ways. He was also riding high, and had lots of show offers that he had to turn down after turning over a new leaf.
3. Lady B.
She is that lady who used to sing with Nonini. By the way, she’s Nonini’s cousin. They did ‘Genge Love’ together, then didi Kila Mmoja featuring TMK’s Chege before Lady B crossed over. She is now totally saved, does it for the Lord and has numerous hits, including the famous Matunda featuring Eunice Njeri.
Well, do you remember Warda? That lady in Grandpa’s ‘Fimbo ya Pili’ who says patwa lines and has Rasta colors kwa video? Yes, that one. She is saved. She has also dedicated her life to Christ and she’s doing gospel music. She has songs like Agape Love, Thank You featuring Chris Eh Baba and many more.
Events leading to Warda’s salvation aren’t known yet.
5. Kizzo B.
He was some pure emerging talent. He took the musical world by storm with his song “Ulinibeep”. He was even featured by King Kaka in “Nalia”. He however is saved and also does gospel. With songs like Sina Wasiwasi, Unanitosha, Kaa na Mungu and many more, Kizzo B is still going strong.
In what adds to an already furious storm, Willy Paul is at it again. This time round, he is alleged to have walked out on a radio interview with Radio Jambo’s morning duo, Joseph Gidi and Jacob Ghost.
Mr. Pozee was with ‘Tiga Wana’ co-singer Size 8 Reborn for the Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi earlier today and after thirty minutes, Willy said he was expected to be somewhere in twenty minutes and was getting late. In a Facebook live video, Willy is seen showing Size 8 something on his phone then he tells Gidi “Tunafaa kukuwa tumeenda”, saying that they had agreed to come from 6:30 to 7:30 am.
A clearly disappointed Gidi later apologized to the listeners saying that Willy Paul had said that he had some commitment somewhere hence had to leave. Gidi pointed out attitude saying that Willy might have escaped the questions that were flowing in concerning his recent scandal and alleged feud with Bahati.
However, Willy Paul apologized to Gidi and Ghost, saying that he had communicated in advance about another interview he was to have at KTN on the same day at 8:00 am, the very time he was supposed to end his interview with them. And we know from Westlands to Mombasa Road for KTN isn’t a two-minute drive, right?
Well, if you’re a keen follower of the Kenyan music industry, especially gospel, then you probably know that there’s been some long term feud between gospel musicians Bahati and Willy Paul. And now, things are headed down south.
Almost a week after Willy Paul released his collabo with Size 8, there has been much talk about the ‘un-gospelness’ of the song ‘Tiga wana’. Popular blogger Cyprian Nyakundi bashed the two and Size 8’s husband. DJ Mo.
Bahati too has jumped into the bandwagon and taken to his instagram account to condemn his fellow gospel artistes. In a long instagram post (Click here to see it), the Barua singer posted photos of Nyashinsky, Collo and Sauti Sol, captioning that those are the names he expected in the next groove awards.
“Our Focus has been making Hit songs, Scandals & Headlines and we are not Proud of Our Lord God & Savior JESUS CHRIST,” he wrote.
Bahati said that he personally feels that the last gospel song he did was Barua. What raised eyebrows however was the timeliness of the post and the fact that he deleted every other post he had made before.
This however did not go well with some artistes. Former gospel group MOG’s Boss said it was not okay to judge the whole music industry by using one song, whereas there are many musicians working as required.
“I call upon those whom in their spirit feel like they’ve not been singing honest gospel songs to either withdraw or go back to the source (Jesus) to get advice on the way forward,” he wrote (click here to read the whole post).
Groove Male artiste of the year 2016 was also not okay with Bahati’s post and he replied to Boss saying, “NONSENSE No one appointed @bahatikenya as the spokesman for the gospel industry. He should deal with his issues rather than drag the entire ministry into the mud”.
Well, more pop-corns as we wait for what’s unraveling. Popcorn please!
The beautiful gospel singer is opening up about how the experiences surrounding motherhood has changed her.
Size 8, who gave birth to Ladasha Belle six months ago, is definitely proud to be a mum and it is evident on all her social media platforms.
Speaking to Sophia Wanuna during the KTN Friday briefing last night, she expressed the challenges of always leaving her daughter when she is at work. The also didn’t shy away from the fact that she is not quite a ‘size 8’ anymore.
