Senegal, popularly known as the Lions of Teranga, yesterday restored Africa’s pride at the global tourney after beating Lewandoski’s strong Polish side 2-1. All the other African teams have lost their opening matches except Senegal, thanks to yesterdays crucial win. The Senegalese side has several key stars like Diouf, Sakho, Khouyate and Mane who play in the English Premier League as well as the match winning goal scorer Niang, the former AC Millan star. They very well dominated the match and upheld the win despite conceding a late goal from Poland to make the 2-0 victory to 2-1.
The first goal came in the 37th minute when Sadio Mane manicured a brilliant pass to Idrissa Gueye who fired a shot at the goal. The shot took a deflection on Polands Thiago Cionek and into the goal. Senegal weren’t done yet and in the 60th minute Mbaye Niang scored yet another controversial goal to make it 2-0. Poland tried very hard to salvage a point at least but to no success as Senegal held on to the win. However, they secured a late goal at the 87th minute to make it 2-1 through a header from Krychowiak.
The Lions of Teranga now await Japan in their second group match. Japan had earlier on beaten Colombia in yet another very controversial match.
