Airtel has threatened to exit the Kenyan market if the ‘anti-competitive behavior’ by the market leader, Safaricom, is not checked.

Youssefi also opposed the decision by Communication Authority (CA) to allocate Safaricom a license to to roll out high-speed (4G) Internet countrywide ahead of other market players saying consumers will not have a wide variety and will be limited to only one provider.

Speaking to journalists after the launch of  the Smartika promotion, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer Adil El Youssefi said that that they had spent up to Ksh. 50 Billion since they made an entry into the Kenyan market five years ago but the firm is yet to make any profit due to dominance by Safaricom and it may reach a point when the shareholders will not be willing to invest in Kenya.
