Previously, we have seen artistes reigning our airwaves for some years only to get into deep poverty once their stardom deteriorates. But with the business mind of Tanzanian crooner Diamond Platinumz, it’s indeed difficult to hear that the guy has gone broke. Barely three years ago, Diamond was just like any other Bongo artiste churning hits and earning from shows and royalties. Then he ventured into owning a record labe (Wasafi Records) and has since signed some great artistes, going ahead to do massive hits across East Africa.

Rumor has it that the lad is planning to build a very tall building in Dar es Salaam, called “WCB Towers”, while Diamond has confirmed that he’s building a Mosque for his people.

Well, that’s not what we wanted to talk about. The lad has now ventured into some other new business. He now has a website for music selling. The site is already up and will pose a big competitor to similar sites like mdundo and mkito. Each song in the site can be downloaded for Tsh. 300, equivalent to KShs. 13.79. However, foreigners can get the songs for a dollar. So far, the songs in the site are the ones done in Wasafi.
