Chelsea finally found a way to silence the Egyptian star, Mo Salah in their home clash against Liverpool. The former premier league champions have had a tough season under Antonio Conte with their worst fears yet to be confirmed. Sitting at the fifth place, Chelsea face a possibility of missing out in next seasons Champions League. However hopes of still managing to qualify for the competitions have been rekindled after Giroud’s sole header gave the Blues a win over Liverpool.
The Champions league finalists seemed to be the better side in the game with a 68 percent possession but failed to break Chelsea’s deadlock. Though they had the possession right, they failed to create enough chances to pose a threat to Chelsea’s defence. Chelsea’s three man defence looked quite solid with Rudiger managing to keep Salah locked from getting any chance near the goal area. Salah had very minimal Impact in the game. He even came out the player with the minimal touches at the end of the first half.
Chelsea’s Giroud proved critical as the Blues eased past Liverpool to keep their Champions league qualification alive with one game in hand. Ever since joining Chelsea from Arsenal in the mid-season, Giroud has proved to be a better forward for Chelsea and has always been preferred over Morata whose premier league career has been struggling. Giroud converted a header from Victor Moses’ cross in the 32nd minute to give the Blues a lead which they held on to up to the last minute.
Chelsea are now left with two games to play upon which if they win both, they will be level on points with Liverpool. Though if Liverpool loses their last game against Brighton then they will fail to qualify for the Champions league.
