Lets just say 2018 is the year of Kendrick Lamar. Just after bagging the Pulitzer award, everyone thought that was it but he wasn’t done yet. Kendrick walked into the Billboard Music Awards with 15 nominations in total, the highest ever achieved by a black rapper. His recent album DAMN was a key \contribution to these award nominations. His main competition was coming from Ed Sheeran who also had about the same number of nominations.
The Compton born rapper stole the show by winning six awards out of the fifteen he was nominated for. He was the star of the day as he is the only sole artist who walked out of the awards with the most awards in his possession. Here are the categories he won: he picked up Top Billboard 200 Album (“Damn”), Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist, Top Rap Album (“Damn”), Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Streaming Song–Audio (“Humble”).
He was followed by Bruno Mars who had won five awards. Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Tour, Top R&B Album (“24K Magic”) and Top R&B Song (“That’s What I Like”).
Sheeran and Imagine Dragons were next in line with four awards apiece. Sheeran claimed Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist and Top Radio Song (“Shape of You”). And Imagine Dragons picked up Top Duo or Group, Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Album (“Evolve”) and Top Rock Song (“Believe”).
